What We Teach

Something big is happening in education across the nation, in California, and here at Hickman - the adoption of the Common Core State Standards. Created by teachers, parents, education experts, and others from across the country, the standards provide clear, consistent expectations for what students should be learning at each grade in order to be prepared for college and career.   

The standards are the same wherever you go in over 40 states. Real life is really important! What students learn in school should be directly related to what they’ll be required to do once they leave. The standards tell us what students should achieve, leaving the materials and means to the decision of parents, teachers, and schools.
